Water Polo Club

About RWC

Formed in Sept of 1990 as a school “Old Boys Polo Club”. However as we got more and more non Old Boys joining the club we amended our rules and are now a fully “open” club. Currently we have about 50% - 60% of our players who are not Old Boys and come from all over the country / world.

We have run up to 7 teams across the 5 different men’s leagues, however after Covid shutdown we have reduced the numbers to between 4 and 5 teams. This allows us to take players of all skill and fitness levels and find a home for them. We are a competitive but social club, so you can determine how competitive you want to be but also enjoy yourself.

Our Current Teams

From Social Teams with their Biggest Fixtures at the Bar, to Competitive Teams playing International Tournaments and Representing the National Mens Team.

RWC Meerkats

Our flagship team plays in the Men’s Premier League. The team also plays in the Men’s Premier Division, Currie Cup, Gauteng Invitational Tournament & Cape Town Invitational. This is our elite team coached by Duncan Woods.
Meet the Kats

RWC Bears

Playing in the Premier League. This team is made up of some Senior players and a new crop of Junior players who are pushing to move into the Kats soon. So a blend of young and older competitive players. This team is coached by Ettiene Le Roux.

RWC Colts

Playing in the 1st League. This is our “mid aged” team who are still competitive but cannot commit to Premier League training. This team goes to SA Masters and plays in the 30+ age group.

RWC Orcas

Playing in the 2nd League. They are a mix of social players and younger players who are moving up through the ranks. This team usually goes to SA Masters as a more social team playing 30+ or 40+

RWC Rogues

This team has been resurrected to play in the Men’s 2nd league and mentor some junior players at the same time. They play together each year at the SA National Masters Competition.

RWC Average Joes

Playing in the 1st League. This is our “mid aged” team who are still competitive but cannot commit to Premier League training. This team goes to SA Masters and plays in the 30+ age group

RWC Masters

This is a loose amalgamation of the players who train on a Tue/Thur and Sat. These are the Vintage generation who keep the spirit and fun of polo alive while helping young players come through and build some confidence.

Dads and Lads

A bunch of awesome dads getting together to play water polo with their sons in a supportive and growth-focused manner. It's perfect for strengthening that special father-son connection while also building camaraderie and improving skills.

Ladies

This is a new initiative for the club as we aim to eventually enter a competitive women's team into the league. For now the ladies get together a couple of times a week in a more social setting.
